User Manual

A reference for every feature of Tenji P-Fab. If you are new, start with the Tutorial.

1. Screen layout

WhereWhat
Preview (top)Shows the braille for your text, plate by plate (Plate #1, Plate #2…).
“Input Text” (bottom)The text field and the blue “Save” button.
Icons (top right)Clock = history / gear = output settings / download = save (same as the “Save” button).

2. Input and preview

The preview updates as you type. Characters per line and lines per plate come from the output settings; longer text is split across several plates.

3. Correcting a reading

Kanji readings are determined automatically and can be wrong, especially for proper nouns. Tap a braille cell in the preview to open the reading editor for that word. Enter the reading in hiragana and tap “Save” to update the braille.

4. “Many characters cannot be converted” warning

When many of the characters cannot be converted (about 30% or more of the input), the app shows a warning. This usually means the braille language does not match the text; tap the warning and check the braille language. Unconvertible characters are highlighted in the input field.

5. Output settings

Open them with the gear icon. Changes show up in the preview right away.

SettingRangeDefault
Characters per line5–3010
Lines per plate1–103
Plate thickness (mm)0.5–2.0 (steps of 0.1)1.0
Dot height (mm)0.2–1.0 (steps of 0.05)0.4
Braille languageJapanese / EnglishJapanese

Dot height directly affects how the print feels to the touch. If it feels sharp, try a lower value and print a test.

6. History

When you tap Save, the text and settings are kept on your device as history (up to the 20 most recent). Open it with the clock icon and tap an entry to restore that text and its settings. “Clear” removes all entries.

7. Saving (exporting the ZIP)

Tapping “Save” creates a ZIP and opens the share sheet. Choose “Save to Files”, AirDrop, etc.

The ZIP can’t be printed as is. Extract it and use plate_XX.obj or plate_XX.stl inside. See the Tutorial for the contents and how to take the files out.

8. Braille language

Switch between “Japanese” and “English” in the settings. This is independent of the app’s display language (which follows your device), so you can make English braille on a Japanese-language device.
